The Critical Massive

Genre(s): Breaks, Electronica, Indie

In a musical world, where most follow boundaries, there are those who choose to break them.B

Blurring the lines between the blind segregation of music genres and arrangement, The Critical Massive sets a new precedent for sound fusion. Dirty riffs, big beats and dynamic vocals, sets the soundscape of this explosive crew.

Drawing members from the Electronic, Punk, and Metal scenes; The Critical Massive unites individuals fuelled with a passion for reinvention and change.

Their debut EP was received ecstatically when launched to a 2000-strong crowd, including a panel of some of the industry’s greatest names, at the 2008 Miami Winter Music Conference. This achievement followed the group’s national success as finalists in the 2007 Music Oz Awards (The Australian Music Industry’s independent awards) during their first year of entry.

Following from this success, was the nomination of their track 'LAWLESS' as a 2008 finalist for the prestigious USA Songwriting Competition, in the electronica category; putting them amongst only a handful of Aussies to ever achieve this accolade.

BOY LOST, producer/electronic artist, has been rocking the club and rave scene for the best part of a decade. Starting as a hip hop DJ as a youth, he was drawn into the big beat and acid house sounds of the 90s and went on play at some of the country’s biggest raves including Ministry of Sound… and along side some of the worlds most prolific acts including FAITHLESS, SASHA, TIESTO, Lisa Lashes, 4STRINGS…

Crossing paths with Metal/punk guitarist CHATS, a self taught guitarist and amazing riff writer, The Critical Massive was born. Shortly after his arrival in Australia from London, vocalist and bassist THOMAS joined the group. After a youth spent discovering the raw energy and power of bands like Black Sabbath and Rage Against The Machine, he developed a fascination with music as an uncensored means of communication. Having done time on bass with London metal bands, he now injects incensed, socially informed, progressive lyrics into The Critical Massive.

RIDDUMS NATION, hailing from New Zealand, has roots spawned from a metal background, later delving into hip hop and turntablism. Having set the stage on fire at events such as The Big Day Out, his stage presence and dynamic vocals brings final element to the band.

Their influences range from The Prodigy, RATM and NWA to Slayer and Pink Floyd. Their sound is about fusion; cutting the edges of Breakbeat, Metal and Hip hop, by a group that delivers a mind blowing sound to the masses and a live show which is no less than explosive.

With the early success of their EP, and with two albums currently being recorded, it is set to be an exciting year for this dynamic group.
